		Polyps  Image 1 Image 2 Image 3 Image 4 Adenomatous Polyps An adenoma is a type of polyp which is pre-malignant. These should all be removed through the endoscope. These polyps start out as small nodules on the bowel wall. Image 1 shows such a small polyp, about the size of a match head. These are almost never malignant at this size. As polyps grow, they may develop a stalk and look like a small mushroom. Image 2 shows a polyp about the size of a small marble with a stalk. Image 3 demonstrates a quite large polyp sitting in an area of diverticuli or pockets. This polyp may already have some cancer in it. Image 4 is an example of a spreading adenoma. Medically, these are called villous adenomas. These may become so large that surgery is needed.
